Chatting With Educational Consultant, Retired Superintendent, Ex-Ministry, Works Nationally & Internationally, Committed 2 Equity, Leadership & Learning- Dr. Beverley Freedman from Ontario, Canada-Beverley Freedman has an extensive history of involvement with the Ontario Ministry of Education, contributing to numerous provincial initiatives. Presently, she holds a position as a member of the Accreditation Committee at the Ontario College of Teachers, and she is an active participant on the Equity Committee of the Ontario Public Supervisory Officers Association. Beverley formerly served as the Superintendent of Programs for the Durham District School Board, where she collaborated with multiple district school boards across various jurisdictions, both nationally and internationally, conducting comprehensive school effectiveness and pedagogic program reviews.
Furthermore, Beverley has designed and delivered graduate and post-graduate courses, with a focus on adult learners and learner-centered education, for esteemed institutions such as OISE/University of Toronto, Ontario Tech University (UOIT), York University, and the University of Western Ontario. She also plays a crucial role in the OISE mentor/mentee program.
In her commitment to sharing knowledge, Beverley has co-presented papers at events like ICSEI, various Principals Conferences, and Learning Forward. Additionally, she serves as a consultant for multiple Ontario First Nations’ communities. Collaborating with her First Nation colleagues, they published an article in ICSEI’s 2023 Dialogic, which explores community engagement. You can read the article here.
In her role as a senior manager at ARD Inc., Beverley has co-led several provincial reviews, including those related to the provincial adult education strategy and the Ontario Autism Program. On an international scale, she has worked alongside colleagues to enhance pedagogical leadership and improvement planning in countries such as Norway, Chile, Belgium, Israel, and the Dominican Republic. She also contributed to a chapter in the 2023 Springer release titled “Key Competences and New Literacies: From Slogans to School Reality.”
Furthermore, Beverley is set to have an article published in the fall magazine for the Ontario Catholic Principals Organization. The article will focus on “Leadership Success: Developing and maintaining resiliency and wellbeing in turbulent times.” You can find it on the Ontario Catholic Principals Organization website.
