Chatting With Author & Maintainer of GO Feature Flag, Software Engineering Manager- Moderation Team At Adevinta, AWS Community Builders- Thomas Poignant from Paris, France- Ever since Thomas was in middle school, I’ve harbored a passion for working in the tech industry. It all began with his solitary journey into web development, where he taught myself how to code websites. This initial spark of curiosity led him to pursue a college education in software engineering, eventually culminating in obtaining a master’s degree. His professional journey took a significant turn when he immersed himself in the realm of identity and access management (IAM). During this phase, he dedicated himself to crafting solutions that enabled companies to effortlessly control and monitor user access to their resources. This was a time when hosting one’s servers was considered cutting-edge. However, the landscape shifted dramatically with the advent of AWS (Amazon Web Services), an innovation that left him awestruck. It prompted him to embark on a quest to master AWS, absorbing as much knowledge as possible.
After devoting eight years to IAM, he felt a yearning for something different. He recognized this as an opportunity to diversify his skill set and embrace fresh challenges. Along this journey, He’ve led teams of varying sizes, ranging from 3 to 16 engineers, with a singular mission: delivering maximum value with uncompromising quality.
His expertise primarily revolves around developing and streamlining applications to ensure scalability in the cloud. Over time, He’ve architected multiple distributed systems and developed a strong penchant for automation, particularly in areas such as continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD). This automation not only simplifies the lives of software engineers but also enhances the overall development process. Additionally, He’ve focused on assisting teams in reimagining their work approaches to maximize the value they bring to the table.
Throughout his career, He’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse array of technologies, including Golang, Java, Typescript, AWS, Kubernetes, ECS, Docker, AWS CDK, Cloudformation, Travis-CI, Github Actions, Elasticsearch, Postgres, MySQL, Datadog, Honeycomb.io, Grafana Cloud, Python, and more. He remain deeply committed to continuous learning and eagerly embrace new knowledge every day.
In his spare time, He also maintain several open-source projects, such as https://github.com/thomaspoignant/go-feature-flag and https://www.npmjs.com/package/scim-patch. These endeavors allow him to contribute to the broader tech community and give back to the field that has been so rewarding to him.
